We are delivering evening classes in art and design, working through many different skills and processes, from drawing and painting to printmaking and ceramics.
The group has developed over the past year and we have regular attendance. Many people have a desire to create artwork but have felt pressurised and let down by previous educational experiences and have given up the dream feeling they have little to offer or are 'no good'. Our learners face that fear and throughout the weeks have all created some amazing work in the classes, working in a way that suits them and some of this is exhibited in the Nelson Arms, Middleton by Wirksworth. We featured in the Artsbeat and Derbyshire Life & Countryside in 2016. CLICK BELOW TO SEE! |
"...the Nelson is a drinker’s pub and a remarkable social hub where several groups meet – all for free. The Nelson is known as the ‘Art Pub’ through having a dedicated art room for classes in drawing, painting, willow sculpture and ceramics, run by experienced artists/designers in creative education, Mark Hadfield and Ben Hardy. ‘We have drawn great inspiration from the community, landscape and history here,’ says Mark, ‘and we’ve got a wonderful creative vibe in the village.’..."
